The Stamp Review Crew: Sunshine Sayings

Welcome to another Stamp Crew Review Blog Hop!  We share our take on a selected stamp set every first and third Monday.  Today we stamp with another set from the main catalog, Sunshine Sayings and coordinating Sunshine Wishes dies.  If you are following the hop in order, you have just arrived from Mike Funke's blog.

I have used the sentiments from Sunshine Sayings many times to complement my other cards, but I have yet to break out the Sunshine Wishes dies.  Such a shame!

I had a photo of my daughter sitting on my desk from a previous project, and I thought it would be fun to combine Sunshine Sayings with Splitcoaststampers' Mix-Ability Challenge #209, Brr! Make It Frosty!, which is a mixed media challenge to add something sparkly.

I often make a half-page journal entry with these mixed media challenges in my retired This & That journal.  But, you know, any creativity journal will do!  Or you can incorporate ideas onto a scrapbook page.  To make it a true mixed media page, I added embossing paste through the Hearts Decorative Mask to create some fun texture.

Stamps: Sunshine Sayings; Paper: Basic Black, Neutrals DSP Pack, Watercolor Paper, Red Glimmer Paper; Ink: Watermelon Wonder, Real Red, Versamark; Accessories: Blushing Bride Sequin Trim, White Embossing Powder, This & That Journal, Hearts & Stars Decorative Masks, Embossing Powder, Sunshine Wishes Dies, Big Shot, Sewing Machine, Thread.

And along the same vein, a heart die-cut watercolor card.

I stacked three layers of "love" die-cuts to make the word thicker and pop out.

Stamps: Sunshine Sayings; Paper: Watermelon Wonder, Real Red, Basic Black, Watercolor Paper, Urban Underground DSP; Ink: Pink Pirouette, Watermelon Wonder, Versamark; Accessories: Rhinestone Jewels, White Embossing Powder, Sunshine Wishes Dies, Big Shot, Sewing Machine, Thread, Dimensionals.

Hop on over to Mickey Roberts's blog to see what fun projects she has put together with this week's set.

Vertical Garden Display Samples #2

Continuing on with Day #2 of sharing display samples...

{wedding heart}

I went for a gold and vanilla elegance for a wedding card.  To attach the acetate, I applied glue under the main focal image and hand-stitched with gold metallic thread.

Stamps: Vertical Garden, Sunshine Sayings; Paper: Very Vanilla, Gold Foil Sheets, Fabulous Foil Acetate; Ink: Versamark; Accessories: Gold Metallic Thread, Clear Embossing Powder, Gold Embossing Powder, Piercing Tool, Layering Circles Framelits, Big Shot, Needle, Dimensionals.

{Welcome Scrapbook Page}

I managed one 8 x 8" scrapbook page, not my strength.  Using the Fabulous Foil Acetate adds a nice touch to a sepia-colored page.  Tip: use Mono Multipurpose Liquid Glue behind gold foil design to adhere acetate to card stock.

Stamps: Vertical Garden, Foxy Friends, Labeler Alphabet; Paper: Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, Fabulous Foil Acetate; Ink: Tip Top Taupe, Crumb Cake, Versamark; Accessories: Metallics Sequin Assortment, Delicate White Doilies, Clear Embossing Powder, Banner Triple Punch.

{Vertical Vine}

I embossed the vines with clear embossing powder prior to stamping the wall background.  This card uses CAS(E) This Sketch #109.

Stamps: Vertical Garden, Birthday Fiesta, Ghoulish Grunge, Butterfly Basics; Paper: Crushed Curry, Sahara Sand, Very Vanilla; Ink: Crushed Curry, Garden Green, Sahara Sand, Versamark; Accessories: Metallics Sequin Assortment, Clear Embossing Powder, Fiesta Time Framelits, Big Shot.

MDS Monday: It's Your 9th Birthday!

Oh MDS, it's been so long!  I actually sat down to document my daughter's 9th birthday weekend.  Papa was out of town, so I made sure we filled her days with lots of special activities, including her first mani/pedi and first visit to hibachi.

I don't mind saying after a week of birthday festivities, I am happy to get back to a normal schedule. I am exhausted!

Digital Project Life Week in Review

Although My Digital Studio is going away on June 2 (previously purchased digital content and support available through June 9), I am glad there is digital Project Life content, including Stampin' Up content, available at ProjectLife.com.

Here's a couple digital Project Life pages I created for the Facebook challenge PLxSU Trio, which I hadn't yet posted for you.

The initial challenge called for splitting a photo over more than one "pocket".  For this layout, I used the Everyday Adventure PL kit.

Using the same Everyday Adventure PL kit, PLxSU Trio Week #2 challenge was to use a list on the page.

ALERT: Tomorrow is the last day to grab My Digital Studio digital downloads, software, and print products for 30% off.  Grab them while they are still available!

MDSM115 The Long, Sad Good-bye

DATE ALERT: June 2 is the last day to purchase My Digital Studio digital downloads, software, and print products for 30% off.  Grab them while they are still available!  The purchased downloads, technical support, and online forums and galleries will be available until June 9.

For our last MDS Monday challenge, Tami has asked us to create with our favorite download.  Well, one has to sit and think for a while on that one.

I find overlays to be the most useful, most often used downloads. The supporting characters of our pages who don't get enough credit. Over the years I've loved the grungy stuff like Back to School and Downtown Grunge, but I've also like brightly colored kits like Playful Polka Dots, Sweet Details, and My Sweet Pea. I couldn't decide. Finally I had to scan through all my pages and find one that I really love.

My latest passion is to strive for pages that tells the story and emotions through the design and photos. You can almost hear the words coming off the page. With that, I reworked a page, which I actually made early on using My Sweet Pea. I just love how all the wonderful patterns of this download work together seamlessly.

MDSM114 Celebrate Ferris Wheels

I had it kinda easy with this week's MDS Monday challenge.  Cindy's sketch reminded me of a page I made using the Sale-a-Bration 2013 download.  Rather than reinvent the (ferris) wheel, I'll share it again.

"Both Little Missy and I LOVE ferris wheels.  It is the first ride we hit at the local county fair.  I thought the ferris wheel image would make a cute scrapbook page, and since I am mostly a digital scrapper, I used the Feeling Sentimental digital images from the One Big Sale-a-Bration MDS CD.  When I was about her age, I wondered if there were ferris wheels in heaven.  I thought I just couldn't live with them.  :)"

MDS Elements: Stamps: Feeling Sentimental, Days to Remember overlay, Ink Splatter; Papers: Crumb Cake Textured, World Spectacular DSP; Color Palette: Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla; Accessories: Attic Boutique embellishments, Staple, Spiral punch, Petite Pennant punch, Freeform Stitch #1 circle; Font: Clipper Script.

Here is Cindy's sketch -

There is only a couple weeks left for MDS Monday.  I sure hope you take time to join us this week!

MDSM113 Race Ready!

We're getting close to the end.  Just three more MDS Monday challenges, so make sure you join us!  This week it is Beth's turn.

Beth asked us to use small images or stamps for some visual interest, but do not use splatter. I've been having fun with some overlays, so I kinda went along in that vein with layered some paper and stamp images. Going with the key idea "scratch", I started with a Number One paper and then added Game Day scratches and circle/ring clusters.  The rings don't symbolize anything; I just like them.

Here's Beth's sketch -

MDS Elements: Number One - life & moments, Game Day - scratches, School Days - circle, Thankful Tablescape Simply Created - linen thread, Number One DSP, Lots of Tags - shape 2; Font: Rock Salt.

MDSM112 Challenge Yourself Daily

MDS Monday has received comments that we inspired our followers.  Well, you inspire us right back!  Recently a couple participants used Decorative Overlays on their pages, and they really caught my eye.  Do I have that download?  Yes.  Have I used it?  No.  So this week I set out to use it.  Thanks Diane & Sharon!

No victory to be had by the Baks family this day, but we sure did try.

Here is Anita's sketch -

MDS Elements: Decorative Overlays, French Foliage - splatter, Game Day - splatter 2, Convention 2012 - chevron, Lemonade Stand - watercolor; Font: Gill Sans MT Ext Condensed, Bodoni MT Condensed, Tall Dark And Handsome, Tall & Lean, Brush Script MT.

And while I am sharing biking pages, here's another one I created for PLxSU Trio Challenge, using a selfie.

MDSM111 Hello Weekend!

This week Jeanna is bringing us the MDS Monday sketch.

I took the liberty of straightening up the sketch to right angles to continue on with my Project Life kick.  Hope Jeanna doesn't mind!  I stuck with the Everyday Adventure PL kit.  More black & white, but here I also included a splash of color.

This page also covers Week 3 (stamp on a photo) and Week 4 (using arrows) challenges over at PLxSU Trio Facebook Challenge.

Don't Forget: All My Digital Studio digital downloads, software, and print products are reduced 30% through June 2.  Stock up before they are gone!

MDSM110 Know Thyself

It is Yapha's turn to host the sketch this week on MDS Monday.

I've been scrapping more everyday photos lately, and I tried to find a photo that would stand on its own. This is taken in an abandoned factory in the forest where we often mountain bike. Socrates philosophy as graffiti always amuses me.  You can't get to this location by car; only by walking or biking, and it is quite a distance.  I love the thought of being deep in nature and then contemplating the quote.

Hey, heads up!  Tomorrow the retirement list comes out, and all MDS digital downloads, software, and print products will be reduced 30% through June 2.  Woohoo... time to stock up before they are gone!

MDSM109 Best Year Yet

It's my turn to host this week's MDS Monday sketch.  I thought it would be fun to layout a mixture of photos and background papers or stamp images at a linear angle.  This is a great way to tell a pictorial story while breaking it up with patterns or solid spaces.  In the solid or pattern squares, you can add dates, details, or journaling.

The layout was derived from a page on pinterest I just fell in love with, and I added a mish-mash of images I liked.  I think all my pages would be B&W with a textured neutral background, if I had my druthers.

Here's this week's sketch -

MDSM108 So Proud of You!

For this week's MDS Monday challenge, Tami asked us to focus on the journaling.

Using Happy Things Pocket Cards as a springboard, I took a bit more space to expand on my feelings on my daughter's bike racing.  Kiddos need a bunch of encouragement until they find their wings.

MDS Elements: Happy Things Pocket Cards - circle, Happy Things Pocket Cards - don't forget to be awesome, Chillin Out Pocket Cards - so proud of you, This Makes Me Happy - heart, Happy Things Pocket Cards - pool party, Vanilla - Simple Stitches line, Basic Pearls and Rhinestones; Font: The Skinny, Arial Narrow.

MDSM107 Walking Alone in Late Winter

This week's MDS Monday sketch is brought to us by Cindy... love it!

We got snow on the first day of spring... ugh! The contrast of seasons is seen in the snow on the budding pussy willows.  Check out the text around the box, an adaptation of the poem by Jane Kenyon.

Here's Cindy's sketch:
