MDSM9 Subway Art

Welcome to another challenge at MDS Monday!  It is my turn to host, and this week my challenge for you is to create a digital or hybrid project with subway art.  Loosely defined, subway art is using different size and type of fonts to fill the area with related words.  Horizontal or vertical text or even graphics... fill the space any way you like.  Just make it varied in size and type and filled to the brim.  :)

I also included a quick sketch, if you choose to use it.

I started my page as part of the recent mydigitalstudio.net challenge focusing on free fonts.  Subway art is a perfect way to showcase fonts.  This page is based mostly on the Neon Notes kit.  I've had it a while but haven't given it a good whirl yet.  Reminds me of Bob the Builder, or that's the generic name we use for kids' construction sets in our house.  I think the Oh Splat! stamp set matches up nicely with it as well.

I cropped and colored the Triangle Assortment image, and then repeated it across the page.  The Shaped Clip is a .png file.  I pulled the file into Photoshop Elements and cropped it there to come up with the center heart, in order to lay that on the top of the layers while the whole clip lays below the layers.  I don't know an easier way to make layers look "clipped".

Edit to add: I created a video on how I edited the heart-shaped clip.

MDS Elements: Stamps: Presto Patterns Overlays, Oh Splat!, Neon Notes, Decorative Overlays; Color Palette: Crumb Cake, Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Yoyo Yellow; Accessories: Shaped Clips, Neon Notes, Simple Stitches, Paper Buttons (recolored), Sending Love epoxy brads, Baker's Twine; Font (in order): Rock Salt, You Are Loved, 2Peas Goofball, Surf Safari, KG Skinny Latte.

I was quite early in getting my page done, so I had time to come back and make another page.

I was flipping through my photos, looking for one that would work well with a bunch of words.  Our Acadia photos worked great, with all the names of towns, sights, and trails with which to use for a subway art background.  The photo from the previous page also happens to come from Acadia too.  At age 4, Little Missy completed her first hard hike, 2 miles round-trip.  So proud of her!

I did some color matching for the chevron stamp image and strip of card stock above it.  The photos have a pink glow drop shadow, which was also color-matched.  This page was the perfect excuse to grab the Designer Threads download.

MDS Elements: Stamps: Chevron, Presto Patterns Overlays, Days to Remember overlay; Paper: Back to School; Color Palette: Primrose Petals, Basic Black, Whisper White; Accessories: Designer Threads, Downtown Grunge stitching; Font various.

Thanks for stopping by!

Both pages are fabulous, but I had to come here to comment on the quotes from your daughter. :) My girl is 7 and she constantly cracks me up with her statements, I love it! :)

Your neon page is too cute with all those fun phrases. Love the look of the second page with the touch of pink and purple to bring out the colors in your photos. =)
