The Stamp Review Crew: Zoo Babies

Welcome to another Stamp Crew Review Blog Hop!  We share our take on a selected stamp set every first and third Monday.  This time we are hopping along with a fun animal set, designed for babies but really can be used for so much more, Zoo Babies.  If you are hopping around in a circle, you have just come from Rochelle Blok's blog.  She always has such fabulous projects!

February's Paper Pumpkin kit gave me a great idea for a card, the cascade fold.  Using two of the accordion bases, I was able to create this fun landscape-shaped card.

I stamped and fussy cut and stamped and cut some more.  Little tweaks here and there, and a little advice from hubs, I think I'm finally happy with it.

I outlined how I created this card:
  • To create this card, I altered the instructions from this Splitcoaststampers technique challenge.
  • Remove 2 panels from each of two scored bases (remaining base size 3-3/4 x 16-1/2").
  • Cut base diagonally so one side is 1-5/8" high and the other is 3-3/4" high.
  • Make a pencil mark at 13/16" on short side and 1-7/8" on long side (half way point).  Draw a faint pencil line to join these marks.
  • On one base piece, cut up to median pencil line from the bottom on score lines #1 and #5.  Cut down from the top to median pencil line on score line #3.
  • On the other base piece, cut down to median pencil line from the top on score lines #1 and #5.  Cut up from the bottom to median pencil line on score line #3.
  • Assemble card by sloting pieces together and decorate.
Stamps: Zoo Babies, Ray of Sunshine, And Many More; Paper: Coastal Cabana, Baked Brown Sugar, Whisper White, Lullaby DSP; Ink: Mossy Meadow, Hello Honey, Coastal Cabana, Baked Brown Sugar, Smoky Slate, Basic Gray, Pumpkin Pie & Daffodil Delight markers, Black Stazon; Accessories: Layers of Gratitude Paper Pumpkin kit, In Color thick baker's twine, Circle punches, Cupcake Builder punch, Confetti Heart border punch, Sponges, Bitty Banners framelits, Big Shot.

Tara is bringing us this week's Friday Mashup challenge, a technique and a sketch.

  • Create a project using "the sketch".
  • Create a project using the "Bouncing Brayer Technique (tutorial)".

Sweetest Day Ever

This past weekend I attended the Ilion, NY Shoebox Swap.  It is always fun to stamp the day away with friends!

Here is the shoebox project I brought along -

This card is inspired by Mercedes Weber, who I think loves donuts as much as I do, based on the donut cards she's made through the years.

Stamps: Something Sweet (retired); Paper: Pool Party, Crumb Cake, Birthday Bash DSP, DSP cover from Occasions Catalog; Ink: Night of Navy; Accessories: Bermuda Bay sequin trim, White baker's twine, 3/4" & 2" Circle punches, Dimensionals.

MDSM109 Best Year Yet

It's my turn to host this week's MDS Monday sketch.  I thought it would be fun to layout a mixture of photos and background papers or stamp images at a linear angle.  This is a great way to tell a pictorial story while breaking it up with patterns or solid spaces.  In the solid or pattern squares, you can add dates, details, or journaling.

The layout was derived from a page on pinterest I just fell in love with, and I added a mish-mash of images I liked.  I think all my pages would be B&W with a textured neutral background, if I had my druthers.

Here's this week's sketch -
