FM148 Let's Get into Shape!

Hi Everyone!  Time for another Friday Mashup, and today Lynda is challenging us to use our geometric shapes.  Specifically triangles and hexagons.

Here's your Mashup Challenge:
  1. Create a project with "Hexagons".
  2. Create a project with "Triangles".
  3. or Create a project using "Hexagons" & "Triangles".
I'll call this a scrap card, because I ended up putting it together with a bunch of left-over scraps on my desk.

To satisfy the hexagon/triangle requirement, I punched out triangle shapes from the Kaleidoscope paper, glued them to a scrap piece of paper, and then punched again with the hexagon punch.  That's taking mashing literally!  To echo the long and tall layout of the hexagons, I used a long and tall card base.

Stamps: Geometrical; Paper: Bermuda Bay, Basic Black, Whisper White, Kaleidoscope DSP; Ink: Crushed Curry, Strawberry Slush; Accessories: Basic Metal button, Bermuda Bay taffeta ribbon, Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch, Triangle punch, Hexagon punch, Arrows EF, Big Shot, Dimensionals.

Mix-Ability Catch-Up Cont'd

I have more Mix-Ability Challenge projects to share. Well, what the heck is up with me and all the mixed media projects?  Sigh, our Florida trip was cancelled with this weather, so I have been relaxing this weekend and doing what I wanna do.  It is a small consolation prize; I'm still pretty bummed.

MIX39 - Watercolor-It

This is for LOVEFEST2014C Doodle-Do, doodling on your project, as well as watercoloring.   I traced the background of my scene with pencil (with the help of the internet), stamped the images with the help of some masking, then erased some pencil lines. I watercolored the main images. I was aiming for a clean scene; I only wished I hadn't screwed up the sentiment.  DH bakes quite often, and he always says this. Funny guy.

MIX41 - No Paper Allowed!

Here we were only to use paper as our base, all other layers should be art media (paint, gesso, etc.) or other type of materials (chipboard, metal, canvas, wood).  In this case, I applied gesso to my creativity journal page, which really wasn't necessary, because I then applied layers of gesso mixed with acrylic paint.  I applied embossing paste with the SU Build-a-Banner stencil.  The house was created using a retired chipboard piece, traced onto canvas.  I applied gesso to the chipboard clouds, then stamped with Good Grid to create texture, and finally sponging with Smoky Slate ink.

Mix-Ability Catch-Up

Time for more Mix-Ability Challenge catch-up. I list these here more as a diary for myself, but you are welcome to read along. :)

MIX36 - Anything Goes! - Create a mixed media project that you love.

This is based on Carrie Cudney Pattern-Mixing Pro class from Convention 2012, with a few additions.  I was crafting right in my creativity journal.  How can this not make you happy?

MIX37 - Gridiron and Hash Tags

This would be one of my 365 days of thankfulness... coffee!  As I am making this card on Valentine's day, I'm feeling the love for my warm little friend.  Creating a grid background with pencil/pen was the challenge, and I created my cup background with Cherry Cobbler and Stampin' Dazzle gold markers.  I carried the grid through with patterned paper, stamped background and sponged drywall tape.  This card uses Retro Sketches #101.

MIX38 - CAS Mixed Media

It is snowing again today... so sick of it!  I grabbed some First Edition DSP and applied some melted crayon for the background.  This is also for LOVEFEST2014B Lovey Dovey Spring and SCS Sketch Challenge 475.

If you are interested in the supplies used for these projects, you can find them in my SCS gallery.  Thanks for stopping by!

MDSM54 Cupcake-Shaped Card

Another Monday, another MDS Monday challenge.  This week Tara is giving us a card sketch challenge.

Along with the sketch is the incentive to use the "align" feature of the software, particularly the "space evenly" tool.

Here you can where it is located on the MDS program screen.  With 3 or more items selected, you will want to align all the items to the "top", and then choose "space evenly".  I use align on nearly every project, and I encourage you to find this little tool and give it a try.  That being said, I didn't use it here.  Heehee.

There have been a couple shaped cards posted on mydigitalstudio.net, including one by design teammate Tami.  I've had several requests for an e-cutter class (combined with My Digital Studio), so while prepping for class, I thought the sketch might look like a cupcake, don't you think?

Here's how I adapted the sketch to a shaped card.  Nothing too fancy on the assembly front... quick and dirty for class since the focus will be on the software programs and cutting.  I did crimp the cupcake bottom, although not too obvious in the photo.

Paper: Crisp Cantaloupe, Summer Starfruit, Chocolate Chip, Sweet Sorbet DSP; Accessories: Banner punch, Crimper, Decorative Dots EF, Big Shot, e-cutter, Sewing machine, Thread; MDS Elements: Cupcake punch.

The Stamp Review Crew: Gorgeous Grunge Edition

Welcome to another Stamp Crew Review Blog Hop!  We share our take on a selected stamp set every first and third Monday.  This round we are looking at the "crime scene" set, Gorgeous Grunge.  This set is perfect for adding the little touch to any background.

Gorgeous Grunge (#130517)

This is the first stop from the top, but if you are hopping around in a circle, you have just come from Nancy's beautiful blog.  For my stop, my initial thought for this set was paint splatter.  This set is great for getting the splatter look without the mess.  I was off to find an image in My Digital Studio that would work.  There is a paint palette in the School Days II download, but I went with a paint bucket from A Year Celebrated 2014 download.

I opened the embellishment in MDS, exported as a jpeg, and imported into the e-cutter.  Once I traced the image, I used the offset function to create a margin around it.  Print and cut, and I'm done.  This card uses Mojo Monday sketch #332.

Stamps: Gorgeous Grunge, Loving Thoughts; Paper: Whisper White, Corrugated Cardboard; Ink Daffodil Delight, Gumball Green, Pacific Point, Real Red, Black Stazon; Accessories: Rhinstone jewels, Chalk Talk framelits, Big Shot, e-cutter; MDS Elements: A Year Celebrated 2014.

I thought the smaller splatter image could also pass for an outer space background.  With that in mind, the focus for this card is an alien.

Here I actually stamped the splatter image with white acrylic paint to get it to show up brightly against the black background.  This card uses Mix-Ability #34 Paint X2, use any two types of ink/paint for your project, and the design was inspired by a card by Chen Zax.  The sketchy gel pen outline isn't normally my style, so it was so fun to break out of the mold a bit.

Stamps: Blast Off, Gorgeous Grunge; Paper: Baked Brown Sugar, Basic Black, Whisper White, Whisper White Core'dinations, Sweet Sorbet DSP, Window sheet; Ink: Wild Wasabi, Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, Tangerine Tango, Cherry Cobbler, Silver Encore, Crushed Curry marker, Cajun Craze marker; Accessories: Crushed Curry chevron ribbon, Clear embossing powder, White gel pen, Shaker Frames, Craft knife, Sponges, Tasteful Trim die, Big Shot, White acrylic paint, Sewing machine, Thread, Stapler.

Speaking of crime scenes, someone had to do it.  I created this card for a twisted humor swap at our local shoebox swap.

I used a crime scene chalk outline off the internet to create and mask my outline.  Of course, the outline was drawn with the chalk marker - heehee.  It is hard to recreate the thin, plastic effect of the police tape, but luckily I found some humorous tape which was meant to protect your lunch in the work refrigerator (or mark the spot of your missing stapler).  I embossed the splatter image for a nice, shiny effect.  In this sample, I managed to use nearly all the stamps in the set.  Yay me!

Stamps: Gorgeous Grunge, Seriously Paper Pumpkin kit; Paper: Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla; Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso, Versamark; Accessories: Clear embossing powder, Chalk marker.

Make sure you check out the next stop to see what lovelies Cindy at Stamps, Paper and Ink put together with the set. Thanks for stopping by!

      LOVEFEST2014A Puppy Love

You may have heard we got dumped on here in the Northeast.  Officially, 21 inches in my little town.  Hubby had been cleaning snow, walkways, pathways for animals, and roofs for hours.  Valentine's Day?  What's that?

For Love Fest 2014, this is the inspiration for this card.

My background was CASE'd from a card made by the fabulous Lydia.

Stamps: D is for Dog, Branch Out; Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White; Ink: Pacific Point, Marina Mist, Coastal Cabana, Soft Sky, Summer Starfruit, Baked Brown Sugar, Black Stazon, Cherry Cobbler marker, Baked Brown Sugar marker; Accessories: Dazzling Diamonds, White gel pen, Owl builder punch, Sponges, Drywall tape.
