Convention Day 3

Wow, I'm not doing a great job of taking pictures this time around.  I'm such a slug... been taking my time and enjoying things.  The classes this year are fabulous.  I'll come back and tell you more.  And I've taken some pictures of display boards.

I got a 53 minute run in this morning in Memorial Park just north of Temple Square.  Oh my, I didn't even know it was there!  Gonna try to get back there tomorrow and take some pics.  ETA... I didn't make it out running this morning.  Boo!

Some exciting news... I won prize patrol today!  I got Friendship Preserves stamp set and piercing pack from the upcoming Holiday mini catalog.

ETA: Carrie Cudney hosted the class called I am Open for Business.  She went over some basics of Stampin' Up's upcoming awareness campaign (is it possible some people in this world don't know Stampin' Up?!), the demonstrator business website, customer leads, and what to do with customer leads.  Like many of the classes, Carrie did her homework, talked to demonstrators, and brought some real-life examples to help us use these tools more effectively.  Tag: Convention 2012, #Convention2012

The class I am Starting Out was hosted by Emily Montoya.  This class reviewed a lot of the beginner levels of the career plan.  My take-away was the "Title at a Glance" worksheet available on the demonstrator website.  Stampin' Up also offers a Career Plan booth at Convention to help you work on your goals to reach the next level.  What's my next level?  Manager.  I need to get 3 more recruits and one downline needs to also recruit.  Possible?  Sure!  The reward would be the Manager's Reception at Leadership and free product bundles with each new mini catalog, among other things.

Emily also hosted my next class, I am Reaching Out.  This class focused on Generation Y (25-34 year-olds), which she nicknamed Kate (is that like Kate from Kate & Will?).  Our guest speaker, Jason Dorsey, also spoke on Generation Y, so Emily's class fed right into this... how to communicate, attract, and excite the Y Generation.  Gen Y is not necessarily tech-savvy, but tech-dependent.  So we need to use current technology to interact with them.

And I took a class this evening with the Stampin' Up concept artists and got the supplies to make a little banner... to be continued when I return home.  Here is some crappy pictures I got of the concept artists boards, spliced together... it was crowded!

Here's a pic of happy hour with Lydia from Understandblue, with Linda from Canada, back on Tuesday evening.

Did you know that Stampin' Up has its own Pinterest account?  And roomie Jen Timko pointed out that I have been tagged.  How cool is that?

And a couple pics of us at dinner at the Red Rock Brewery, courtesy of roomie Cindy Elam and Paula Wright.

FM68 Lazy Days of Summer

Let's celebrate some summertime fun on the Friday Mashup with a challenge focusing on the lazy days of summer and a sketch.

Sketch by: Heidi
So here is the "Mashup" Challenge:
  1. Make a project with "the Sketch."
  2. Or Make a project w/ a "Lazy Summer Day theme (under the shade of a tree/ biking / Swimming / Sitting in an adirondack chair)."
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project w/ the "Sketch & the Lazy Summer Day Theme."

I had a lot of ideas for this card, so this month's Stampin' Celebration Inspiration Challenge help me choose the direction.

I wanted to spend all my time on the focal point, so I created a scene with lots of paper piecing.

Here's a close-up of all the textures, sponging, brayering, and spritzing.

Stamps: Summer Splash, Sweets for the Sweet, Fabulous Phrases; Paper: Marina Mist, Pacific Point, Pumpkin Pie, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, Whisper White; Ink: Marina Mist, Pacific Point, Pumpkin Pie, Early Espresso, Sahara Sand, Crumb Cake marker; Accessories: Cupcake builder punch, Color Spritzer tool, Brayer, Sponges, Circle Scissors Plus, Texture Plates Kit #4, Square Lattice EF, Perfect Polka Dots EF, Petal Cone die, Big Shot.

Convention Day 2

Another full and fun day at Convention.  I'm skipping the Awards Ceremony and after-party.  Guess I'm getting old, but nice to have some relax time in the room in the evening.  Tomorrow I will have class, so better rest up.

Here's a picture of Main Stage with Shelli speaking.

They added "second day" items to the Memento Mall selection.

MDS print products, SU logo cookie stamps and cookie cutters, and garden flags!  Cute!  They will just look fabulous covered in snow in New York.

Something that stood out on the display boards is this doll house.  Are you freaking kidding me?  If I put this much love into something, I don't think I could let it out of my sight!  The artist who made this is Suzanne Johnson.

Awesome, don't you think?  I just love this!!!

ETA: The wonderful, the beautiful Bonnie Thurber hosted a class called I am Doing Business My Way.  I really do love you, Bonnie!  Ronda Wade and Tami White shared their experiences with holding "private classes" and "hybrid clubs".  I picked up some good tips I can incorporate.  Tag: Convention 2012, #Convention2012

Donna Griffith was the host of the session I am Savvy.  Dawn Griffith, Laura Milligan, and Meg Wheeler presented some projects on the main stage with the theme of being savvy, i.e., I am savvy with ribbon, fabric, and Simply Scrappin' and Simply Sent kits, respectively.

Some really good ideas... I think I'll be using some for a future class or club.

Then came Shannon West's I am Having Fun class.  Now that was fun!  Dancing to Barry White with Shannon and Brian Pilling is just a blast.  If you start smelling yummy, subtle smells or hear some fun music during club, you know how to thank!  Shout out to Brian too!  I didn't take his class this year, but I just <3 him!!

Well, off to bed, a run tomorrow, and more fun.  Thanks for stopping by!

Single Layer Convention Swap

This year I was determined not to sign up for swaps at Convention.  I'm not... I'm not.  Ok, I ended up with one.  I thought that wasn't too bad.  I signed up for a single layer card swap for a nice challenge.  Oh boy!  I've already lamented on how they are hard to stamp and embellish.

Here's the one I ended up going with for the swap.

I love the look, but my gosh!  So nerve wracking not to screw it up.

Stamps: French Foliage, Just Believe; Paper: Very Vanilla; Ink: Cajun Craze, More Mustard, Old Olive, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip; Accessories: Early Espresso baker's twine, Corner rounder punch, Simply Scored, Sponges.

On My Way to Convention... And a Web Special!

Today I'm flying to Salt Lake City for Stampin' Up's annual convention.  This year's Convention theme is "I Am...". We'll be learning more about how Stampin' Up fits into our lives and helps define us, i.e., "I am creative", "I am a leader", "I am having fun", "I am making money".  Stay tuned for daily updates on what's going on.

Unfortunately, I won't be available for personalized service, so instead, a special! Place an online order through my demonstrator website through July 22, and I will bring back a little something for you from Memento Mall!  They sell exclusive Stampin' Up trinkets at Memento Mall, and you can only get these items at Convention.  Can I say I love Memento Mall????  I do!

Thanks for stopping by, and stay tuned!

FM67 Have a Banner Day!

Today's Friday Mashup challenge is brought to you by our fearless leader, Holly.

So here is the "Mashup" Challenge:
  1. Make a project with a "Banner or Flag."
  2. Or Make a project with a "Matching Envelope."
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a project with a "Banner / Flag & a Matching Envelope."

Ooooh, yay, I love banners!  I've made a ton of pointy banners, so I went with a half circle banner on this one.

I wanted fun, happy colors, but also masculine colors.  Hopefully this fits the bill.  Plus a matching envie, of course.

Stamps: Fabulous Phrases; Paper: Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Summer Smooches DSP; Ink: Not Quite Navy; Accessories: Silver mini brads, 1" Circle punch, Word Window punch, Designer Label punch, Argyle EF, Big Shot, Sewing machine, Thread, Dimensionals.
