FM61 From Scraps to Scraplings

It's my turn this week for the Friday Mashup challenge.  A few years ago, I did a Virtual Stamp Night challenge over at Splitcoaststampers, which was to make a scrapling.  It was such a cute little thing, I thought I would bring the challenge back again here.

A scrapling is a little card, notecard, or tag that you would make out of the scraps that are left from your card stock after making a square card.  What do I mean?  If you started with an A2 card base, 4-1/4 x 5-1/2", and then cut it down to make a 4-1/4" square card, there would be a 1-1/4 x 4-1/4" base left.  That's the starting point for your scrapling.  It could also be 1-1/2 x 4-1/4", if you had made a 4 x 4" square card previously. It is lots of fun to decorate this small space!

Perhaps you don't make square cards as often as I do... that's ok.  Use your scrap patterned paper and ribbon to make a card.

So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :
  1. Make a project using " Scraps of Pattern Paper or Ribbons ".
  2. Or Make a " Scrapling ".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a Scrapling using Scraps or Pattern Paper or Ribbons. ".
For this challenge, it is helpful to start with small or tall skinny stamp images.  Think linear.  Kites, balloons, trees would all work.  And no problem if your images or embellishments fall off the edge.

For my sample, I was faithful to using only scraps (so proud of myself!).  I cut out and popped up the little carton and popcorn pieces too.  Love these bright colors - so happy!

Stamps: Comfort Food; Paper: Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Early Espresso, Whisper White, Big Top Birthday DSP;  Ink: So Saffron marker, Real Red marker, Stazon; Accessories: Daffodil Delight grosgrain ribbon, Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch, Dimensionals.

And for your viewing pleasure, I'll include the original VSN scrapling, I made a few years ago.  I still remember how pleased I was with it, because it was so cute!

Hope you'll join us this week at the Friday Mashup to make your own little cutie!  Thanks for stopping by!

It's the New Catalog! Ribbon Shares!

The time is here! The new catalog is here! Head on over to the Stampin' Up website to download a copy for yourself (click on the catalog photo).

You can get a copy from me by hosting a workshop, joining stamp club, or placing a $25 order.

With the new catalog comes lots of new ribbon. It can get pricey to buy spools of ribbon on your own, so let's share them and each get a variety of colors! I am now taking orders for a couple ribbon shares I have put together.

- In Color Ribbon - 3/8" stitched satin ribbon, five new In Colors (Gumball Green, Midnight Muse, Primrose Petals, Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit).  Receive 2 yards of each color for $10.64.

- New "Go-To" Grosgrain Ribbon - 1/4" grosgrain with stitching down the center.  Ten colors (Basic Gray, Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso, Night of Navy, Pacific Point, Pretty in Pink, Real Red, Rich Razzleberry, Whisper White, Wild Wasabi).  Receive 2 yards of each color for $11.77.

Let me know if you want to join in!

A Candy Button!

Haha, I made a candy button!  There is a cute example of a candy button, using a stamp image and a real button, on page 49 of the new catalog.  I had to give it a try.

Not perfect, but it came out pretty cute.  It is almost yummy enough to eat... which is really where my love for colors, paper, and stamping comes from.  Yummy to look at, just like candy!

I used Clean&Simple layout #191.

Edit to add:  I started with Tombo liquid glue to get the stamped image on the button.  I cut little slits around the entire circumference and folded the paper behind the button.  To top it off, I used Mod Podge, which dries with a matte finish.  It takes a little bit of fiddling to get the little cut tabs to fold back.  And be careful with Mod Podge and reddish ink... it will bleed.  I just pounced with a sponge brush.

Stamps: Sweets for the Sweet, Something Sweet (retiring May 31); Paper: Melon Mambo, Early Espresso, Whisper White, Just Eat Cake DSP; Ink: Melon Mambo, Early Espresso; Accessories: White baker's twine, Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch, Bitty Banners framelits, Big Shot.

SUOC46 Bright Summer Days

Today at Stampin' Up Only Challenges we are having guest stampers!  What fun!!  I thought I would play along anyway, since I was making some thank you cards.

I played around with Stampin' Celebration Inspiration Challenge #54.  I'm just not a rainbow girl, so this one was definitely a challenge!  It certainly seems to be bright enough to qualify for a bright summer day card, though, IMO.

Did you glue all those little flowers, you ask?  Yes, I love my Tombo multipurpose liquid glue!

Stamps: Send Me Soaring; Paper: Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Wild Wasabi, Marina Mist, Concord Crush, Elegant Eggplant, Early Espresso, Whisper White; Ink: Early Espresso; Accessories: Pearl jewels, Itty Bitty punch pack, Background I Texturz Plate, Big Shot, Dimensionals.

FM60 The Difference Between Men & Boys is the Price of their Toys

Holly's challenge today over at the Friday Mashup is to create a Father's Day card with the given sketch.

So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :
  1. Make a project for " That special Man in your life ".
  2. Or Make a project with the " Sketch ".
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a " Masculine card using the above Sketch ".

I decided to try something different... I used an image only available in My Digital Studio to create a hybrid card.  This set reminds me of my uncle, who used to restore Model A's and T's.  I even got to drive one!  :D

I also used the Mother of Pearl technique on the clock face.  This one's for my dad.

Stamps: Timeless (MDS), Teeny Tiny Wishes; Paper: Really Rust, Taken with Teal, Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, Autumn Meadows DSP, Newsprint DSP; Ink: Really Rust, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip; Accessories: Frost White shimmer paint, Hemp twine, Eyelet, Aquapainter, Circle punches, Word Window punch, Designer Label punch, Sponge, Sewing machine, Thread, Dimensionals.

3-D Thursday: Paper Corset

I've been itching to get a chance to make the Paper Corset template in April's issue of Paper Crafters Sampler, and I finally got a chance.  This template is fun and easy to put together.

You can go naughty or nice with your own version!  It is fun to dress it up with lace and ribbons.

The nice thing about a template is that you can size it up or down for your needs (within your printer limitations).  I have mine shown on my daughter's doll house coat rack; I'll have to find a more permanent place to display mine.

You can get your own template at Paper Crafters Sampler, April's Make Mine Vintage issue.

Paper: Marina Mist, Beau Chateau DSP; Accessories: Marina Mist taffeta ribbon, Victoria lace, Crop-o-dile, Sticky Strip.

Betsy's Blossoms

I've been studying my new In Colors, and also prepping for last weekend's shoebox swap in Syracuse.  It was time to bring out sneak peek set Betsy's Blossoms for some play time.  It is a dilemma to either play with the new DSP or the new In Colors, oh and I don't have ribbon for the In Colors yet.... hmmm.

What does one do without the correct ribbon color?  Make a faux ribbon out of card stock, of course.  We've got some cool stitched ribbon coming in the new catalog, so I made a stitched strip of card stock.  I love this dusty rose kind of color, Primrose Petals, which goes with a bunch of rose-colored buttons I have.  Perfect for a large number of cards at the shoebox swap.

You may notice that little smudgy on my Midnight Muse flower image.  These new firm foam stamp pads are awesome!  They have great coverage on solid stamps, but use a light touch.

Stamps: Betsy's Blossoms, Betsy's Blooms wheel, Petite Pairs; Paper: Primrose Petals, Midnight Muse, Summer Starfruit, Whisper White; Ink: Primrose Petals, Midnight Muse, Summer Starfruit; Accessories: White baker's twine, Button, Circle Scissors Plus, Circle #2 die, Big Shot, Sewing machine, Thread, Dimensionals.
