FM111 Pencil Me In

Today it is my turn to host on the Friday Mashup.  When I was taking art class in junior high, pencil drawings were my favorite.  My ex-husband made me a pencil drawing of chocolate-chip cookies for his college course that I had framed.  I may even have that around here somewhere...  Mmmm, cookies.  Anyway, I still like to draw and shade with pencil.  So my challenge for you at today's Friday Mashup is to use pencil in your project, as well as use a splash of color.  You can tell what neutral color I'm aiming for with my challenge.

Here's your Mashup Challenge:
  1. Create a project using "your choice of a Neutral & a Splash of one Bright Color".
  2. Create a project "using a Pencil (regular graphite #2)".
  3. Or Mash it Up and create a project "using pencil & your choice of a neutral & a Splash of a Bright Color".
For my project, I stamped my image in Basic Gray, after stamping off, and then added shading in with pencil.  I used a blending stump to blend in and smooth out the shading.

I picked a pretty detailed image and focused on a few buds to get crazy with the shading.  For the splash of color, I went literal with splattering watered-down reinker spots with a paint brush.

Stamps: Because I Care, Friendly Phrases; Paper: Lucky Limeade, Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White; Ink: Basic Gray, Lucky Limeade reinker, Wisteria Wonder reinker; Accessories: Wisteria Wonder baker's twine, Pencil, Blending stump, Paint brush, Delicate Details EF, Big Shot, Dimensionals.

As I'm writing this, I'm making a video on pencil shading based on this card.

I'll plug it in here as soon as it is done (new GoPro camera, also doing double-duty for hubby's mountain biking, and he is working on a custom mount for me.  It's a process.).

Success!  Here ya go...

Mixed Media Challenge Catch-Up

Little Missy and I took some time this past weekend to play along with the Mixed Media Challenges on Splitcoaststampers.  We're having lots of fun getting messy!  :)

MIX6 - Newspaper and Gesso

I made a page in my creativity journal using gesso, which didn't turn out too well.  This was the second time I used gesso, and then I realized the problem.  I had transparent gesso.  A trip to the craft (crap) store and another try remedied the problem.

MIX7 - Splatter-ific

There was some splattering with a paint brush this weekend (which DD totally loves!), but specifically for this challenge, I previously shared that we played with ink bubbles.

MIX8 - Rip It, Paste It, Ink It (scraps of DSP)

I had a bunch of little scraps from the Sunshine & Sprinkles paper pack, so I made this sample for my daughter to stick into her creativity journal. I used gesso to mute the background a bit. There's a little bit of blue splatter background (more splatter!)  She did that part for me.

MIX9 - Metal & Paint or Ink

We saw Dina's video for this challenge (from her sample), and Little Missy was all in, inspired by Dina's bird.  We glued aluminum foil (with a glue stick) to thin card board, die cut, then painted with acrylic paint. We were battling about how to finish off the project.  She let me stamp once with script on the bird's tail, and gluing onto the lattice was her idea.  This one also went into her creativity journal.

If you are interested in the supplies used for these projects, you can find them in my SCS gallery.  Thanks for stopping by!

MDSM15 Rapunzel Birthday Party

Time for another scrapbook sketch on MDS Monday, and Beth's got a cute one for us!

Thanks to MDS, I'm able to incorporate some elements from my daughter's birthday party invitation

into the scrapbook page.

This was the year of Rapunzel, and we *had* to go meet her at Disney, as well as have a Rapunzel-themed birthday party.  Since I used this brick background earlier for the Disney page, I thought I would shoot a quickie video of how I made it.

MDS Elements: Stamps:  Calendar Kit sun, Celebrate Any Day clothespin; Paper: Well Worn DSP; Color Palette: So Saffron, Perfect Plum, Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive; Accessories: White baker's twine, Chocolate Chip brad, Candid frames, Petite Pennant punch, Ornament punch, Oval punch, Curly Label punch, 5 Petal Flower punch, Blossom Bouquet 1 punch; Font: Tangled.

FM110 Serenely Green

Today on the Friday Mashup, Holly is challenging us with a monochromatic project and baker's twine.

The Fabulous Maryann @ Domestically Speaking
Here's your Mashup Challenge:
  1. Create a project using "A Monochromatic Color Scheme".
  2. Create a project "using Baker's Twine".
  3. Or Mash it Up and create a "Monochromatic project using some Baker's Twine".
Since May's birthstone is emerald, I decided to go with a green palette.

I had full intentions of stamping my images in darkest green (Always Artichoke) for a true monochromatic card, and then the card was done, and no Always Artichoke.  How did that happen?  It was as if the card made itself, and I had no say.  Oops!

Stamps: Serene Silhouettes, Perfectly Penned; Paper: Pistachio Pudding, Whisper White; Ink: Pistachio Pudding, Pear Pizzazz, Gumball Green, Black Stazon; Accessories: Lucky Limeade baker's twine, Brayer, Post-it notes, Dimensionals.

Amazing Birthday

I love the World Spectacular suite in the current catalog, and I hardly got a chance to play with it, and now some of it (the paper, waahh) is retiring.  So I had to squeeze a card into this month's club so we could still have a chance to play.

I have to admit, it is not the colors I would choose, but rather driven by the paper.  I didn't like it at first, but it is starting to grow on me.  You just can't go wrong with flags and tickets, IMO.

Stamps: You're Amazing, Itty Bitty Banners; Paper: Daffodil Delight, Island Indigo, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, World Spectacular DSP; Ink: Island Indigo, Cherry Cobbler; Accessories: Perfect Polka Dots EF, Square Lattice EF, Bitty Banners framelits, Ovals Collection framelits, Big Shot, Stapler.
